Romberg, Sigmund

   Hungarian composer. Born in Nagy Kaniza, he studied engineering in Vienna. In 1909 he went to the US and became a pianist in a cafe in New York. Later he became the staff composer for theatrical producers, J. J. and Lee Shubert. Subsequently he formed his own production company with Max R. Wilner. In the 1930s he went to Hollywood where he wrote screen scores. From 1942 he toured the US with his own orchestra; in 1945 he returned to New York.
